A Sign for Kite Tales

We bought a beach on the Outer Banks of N. Carolina that we rent in season and use in the pleasant off season. The convention is to name your house. So being near the Corolla lighthouse and being in an area that is a favorite spot for kite flying, we used that as inspiration for the name of the house and design of the sign. This shows some of the steps along the way in building the sign and it mounted on the house. I learned a lot about sign painting along the way.

Thanks for the compliments.

The hardest thing for me was learning to be an artist to make the clouds and glass in the lighthouse to resemble clouds and glass in a lighthouse.

The house is in a community with other new homes being built and I have gotten requests to make signs for them, which I turn down as this is a hobby for me and I want to keep it away from being work. But it is rewarding to be asked.

Awesome, you did a fantastic job on the sign. I can see why others would solicit your services.

Great looking sign. I worked in Corolla for a summer a few years ago at Corolla Village BBQ, a little shack of a place that has the best BBQ I have ever had the pleasure of making and enjoying. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already. However, I think it’s only open in season if I remember correctly. Nothing beats vinegar based bbq sauce for pulled pork, especially theirs.

I know that place, right near the lighthouse.
If they are open when we are there, we eat there at least once. You are correct, very good BBQ and vinegar based is my favorite.

This is a fantastic sign and shows a lot of creativity and imagination. Well done.
