Here is today’s attempts at my new skill.
The box is a pencil holder.
The plan came from a scrollsaw book.
The wood is my precious willow from the woodpile.
The joints are part of the plan, cut out with the scrollsaw.
This is my second attempt at this process.
I can already “look back” at previous projects to see how much I’ve improved.
(thanks Martin for this wonderful journal)

Now I have to build a shelf or something for this set to go on.
Hey—I built a set!! The paper tray, the paperclip box, and the pencil holder!! A matching set! :)

I have a long way to go re: the joinery but, hey, I’m proud of my accomplishments so far (it’s only day 2!)
I owe it all to the Willow. I want my house filled with this stuff. I do LOVE it.

Looks great…this is proof that you can get better with practice….and a bit of patience. I really like the willow. I may take a closer look at my neighbor tree next ice storm. He is thinking of cutting it down due to the damage from the last storm.

Yes my second attempt.
Router: still waiting for a table (we’re heading for a year of waiting… it keeps going down farther on the list. I need a planer now!! hahaha)
Carving.. still practicing when I have time. Willow should be ok to carve, I’m thinking.

I’ve tried some different tactics.
My final and favourite is just a wax finish.

Your not only writing in this forum, but you’re also producing, & getting better with each project.
Willow is great for carving also. My Peregrine Falcon is Willow.
I have some Willow in the round yet, & thinking I may rip some into boards.

I really like the natural look or this box and some of your other projects. Perfectly milled stock is overrated and stiff-looking. Good job and good improvement.
