This table was left in the house my grandparents bought the year before my dad was born. When my dad and his sisters sold the house fifty years later, my dad took the table. It sat in my parents garage for a while, until one summer when I was living at home between years of graduate school. I was bored and trying to clean out my parents’ garage, so I decided to tackle this. I sanded, stained with Minwax English Chestnut, and then finished it with Tung oil. The bottom shelf had a large inkstain, which did not come out with sanding, so I (with the help of my dad), flipped the shelf over (I never remember to take “before” pictures—I get so excited to start projects that I just dive in!). I painted the inside of the drawer green to hide where my dad had etched his name as a kid. :)

This came out really nice. You may come to regret painting over your dad’s name though.

Thanks to both of you! I am very proud of it, especially since it was my first piece.

I use my dad’s shop, so I kind of have to do what he says…. :)

Have your say...
