My kids and I started to collect the special minifigures that Lego started creating a few years ago. We are not very aggressive collectors, but the number of minifigures we have finally exceeded the spot that we have them on display. So after trying to make it work, I decided to make a curio display case for our overflow. I started it back during the Christmas break when my nephew was in town and needed something to do.
The main body/grid consists of 1/4 inch thick strips joined with half laps (not sure if that is the correct terminology, but hopefully you know what I am talking about.) That was all I was planning on doing, but it didn’t quite look finished, so I wrapped it with a slightly thicker piece of oak to give it a more finished look. This was just glued (long grain) to the outside of the center grid with really no joinery at all. Finished it with a few coats of walnut colored danish oil which I think gave the oak a nice color.
Shouldn’t be too long before we have it filled.
