This Mother’s Day present for my wife was featured in “Shop Notes” magazine Vol. 22 Issuse 127 as a
tool box. I made some slight adjustments to measurements and frame work to come up with this project. It
was made with birds eye maple and purple heart woods, the back, sides and end corner pieces are all resaw
birds eye mounted 1/2in plywood and then planed to the final thickness. The strips on the back hide the joints necessary to get the panels through a 12 in planer. The mouldings were made on a router table and then resawn for final thickness. All drawers have sliding trays with different size compartments.

Very nice. Although now she’ll expect you to fill it up.

Great adaptation. Very nice!

@BTimmons… He should fill it with cash, so she can buy him tools for Father’s Day.

I’m with Brian on the need to fill it. Know my wife would want to show it to everyone she knew and would argue it needed to be adequately full with similar quality jewelry.

That is one heck of a nice jewelry box / tool chest. The birdseye and purpleheart work well together.

WOW! That is a spectacular jewelry chest. I wouldn’t have seen that from the tool chest plans. Good thinking!

Very nice. I saw those plans and thought “That’s too nice for a toolbox”. You proved me right!

What a beautiful piece of work. I love the woods chosen and the wonderful contrasts in this chest.
