Project Information
I have decided to make a set of try squares and I have started with the smallest one of the set, since I already had some brass of the right size. The first step was cutting the pieces for the stock and the brass blade.
The stock is made of three layers of wood (apple and hornbeam), this spared me the effort to cut a precise slot for the blade.
I epoxied the blade to the stock, clamping them against a drawing square. Since I have not found rivets of the right size I have made them with my small metal lathe.
I cut a proper length of 4mm brass bar, turning both male and female rivets from the same piece.
Since I wanted something fancy I have inlayed a losange-shaped piece of cherry in the stock.
I have finished the square with three coats of Danish oil.
