This is a picture that I transferred onto oak and used walnut for the frame. It’s got a rustic look to it which I was not trying for but I think I like it. And I hope the person I made for does as well.

Nice! So how did you do it? Is this the same thing as the t-shirt photo things?

I made a laser copy of the picture and used gel medium to transfer the copy. It took me several times to get the look I wanted.

Nice project, what was the process of transferring the photo to wood?, I’m sure many here in LJs would like to duplicate. Thanks for showing.

I just made a few of these and was going to make a video of the process. It’s pretty easy using matte gel medium. I learned that oak didn’t work well for mine. It warped as soon as I put the medium on it and made it difficult to clamp and big pieces of the picture flaked off because the grain was a little rough. I made a previous one on poplar and it turned out really nice. I’ll have time to do another one this weekend and post a video.

Matt I didn’t have the problem of warping. I just didn’t use enough gel medium on the first try on the oak. And yes its a simple process, but one I’ve never done before.
