I made this one two years ago for his first retirement(he made rank while on terminal leave and returned to duty). As a tribute to the pentagon he decided on this project. I used a 3D effect and mounted all of the items on the plexiglass instead of the blue backer(I trick I learned a few years ago in Germany); unfortunately the pictures can’t show the full effect. I used red oak with golden oak stain. He wanted to use it again but wanted to add to it. A colleague of mine and I came up with this. He created the stand out of walnut for contrast and I created the stripes out of oak also making a bronze oak leaf cluster out of maple as a gag(he enjoyed the joke). Great guy

I can still see the 3-D/shadow on the rank patches, etc. Well done, looks great wheather he went back or not. Mine is a triangle flag box over a rectangle box with the submarine stuff, major duty stations and rating pins in place. I appreciate the work you did on this job and I am sure he did also.

Looks Good!!! I’ve seen “Floating” coin holders done that way too.
