After seeing all the mallets on here I figured I’d try to make my own. The head is made out of walnut and the handle out of birch. I shaped the handle using a spokeshave.

I did a mortise and tenon to connect the two. Good thing I had built a sharpening jig last week because it really came in handy. I had the walnut on my vise while I was chiseling and I ended up hitting the metal pretty hard with my 1/4” and 1/2” chisels, spent a lot of time fixing them. I drove some oak wedges in the top and trimmed it flush. I finished it in tung oil.

It’s already starting to get beat up, might add a harder finish to to the head. Or maybe I’ll make another one?
