Maple Coffee Table

Project by schroeder posted 980 days ago 689 views 0 times favorited 14 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is a coffee table I made for a client from figured Bigleaf Maple that I had milled from the tree farm where I work. The lumber is air-dried, and the table is from a plan (I can’t remember where I got it). Finish is natural with a clear poly.

I really like the lines on this table, mission/arts and crafts style. The wood is very figured and the finish makes it pop….

Great job. I like your selection and placing of the figure boards you used. You obviously spent some time deciding which arrangement of figure looked best.

Schroeder, starting with such beautiful wood, you arisen to the occasion. I always reflect on the fact that wood grows for years to develops into the amazing raw material of our craft. In a way, it’s the luck of the draw whether it merely become sawdust, heating fuel, or an artistic creation that is a fitting end for the wood.

If wood had emotions, this Maple would be proud to be one of your creations.

And this is from the wood slated to be sold as pulp? No market for this maple? Oh, how I hope all the jocks in your Tri-state area benefit from the lot!

Gorgeous stuff… you did it proud.

This would go really well with the maple cabinetry in my den. Can you send me one of those trees? :-)

Thanks for the comments – even though this project may not be the best the use for this type of wood, you can see why it kills me to ship the logs to pulp – especially since these “nasty grained” trees are in very limited supply.

Don – you and I are on the same page my friend – I think all wood is beautiful already, I’m just trying not screw it up!
