Key To Her Heart

This was one of my first projects ever, it was a gift to my girlfriend and needless to say it really won her over. The box was made out of curly maple and purple heart using full through dovetails at the corners(purple hearts a pain to dovetail, not forgiving wood). The maple heart on the front reveals a key hole to the half mortised lock on the inside. Overall, I learned alot with this box, ie: hand cut dovetails, mortising for hinges and lock. I f you have a fellow loved one try making this keepsake box for them, can be used as a symbolic representation as well.

The only problem I’d have with making this box would be the expense. I would need to order about 100BF of purpleheart before everything would fit together dead nuts. Outstanding work.

Nicely done,
the two species compliment and contrast very well,
especially like the dovetails that appear to be reaching out into the sides
like bird wings taking flight.
