This evening I put some finish on a project I started last week. It is a Shaker style step stool for a Mother’s Day gift. Cherry with Bird’s Eye Maple steps. There were several firsts in the project; First real project using dovetails, First project using liquid hide glue, and I finally broke down and bought a random orbit sander…why did I wait so long?

The dovetails come out pretty well. I was able to fill the few gaps I ended up with using the method described by Shannon @ renaissancewoodworker.com
I used CA as the little wedges were quite small. A spritz of activator and they were ready to be cleaned up.

If anyone is interested I’ve got more pictures and rambling about the build on my blogger page.

It’s nicely done and I love the wood combination.
