Rustic Arbor Out Of Landscape Timbers- For Daughters and Whats-his-name's Wedding

For some unknown reason my daughter has decided to get married in June. She asked me if I could build them a “rustic” arbor for the ceremony. Unsure what exactly qualified as a “rustic” arbor, I began to show her pictures of various arbors online but nothing I found was exactly what she wanted. I finally drew out a plan that included the elements she was looking for and after her approval, here is the result. Since it has to be portable, I went with landscaping timbers to try and save some weight on it. Used a router to cut the notches in the base and sides but did the rest by hand. It will stand by itself (as in the pics) but I will attach the top with 3/8th’s bolts at each corner and a buddy of mine made me some t-handle anchors out of 1/2” rod for the base. They are supposed to choose a stain color so I can darken it up a bit. Total cost so far is well south of 100 dollars. Nothing fancy but she sure seems to like it so I am content.

Very nice Buster…............and you’ll have it after the wedding instead of renting a place with an arbor for $1000.
You could rent it out!!

Best of luck to your daughter and what’s his name!!. Turn him into a good wood worker and then he’ll have a name!!.................Jim

Nice arbor. I hadta laugh at the “What’s his name” title. I have 2 sons in-law and the one we thought was gonna be the “GOOD” one turned out to be the bum. So I can relate to your comment LOL

That is a great looking arbor Buster. There is no job too big or too small for a dedicated woodworker LOL. Perhaps you can persuade your daughter to hold off marrying “what’s his name” until you plant climbing roses to cover the arbor :).

Well, well, well. The arbor we have been hearing about has happened. It was worth the wait. You’ve done a fine job. I’m sure you’re daughter will love it. Also, if you put a back and front on it, it would be a nice place to keep “whats his name” if he doesn’t act the way he should. Another fine job Buster, carry on.

Arbor is great. Wood…. Design… Craftsmanship…

So anywho….. The “what’s his name” remark is what really brought me here…. Well done.:-)
