This is a Mothers Day present for my wife. This is the first time I have used a finial on a project. I used oak for the finial to give some contrast. The heading pic is the only one finished.

This was made from what I was told was Mahogany 6×6 spacers from a ship hauling steel from South America. A friend of mine gave me about 25’ of it. I was told it had to be kiln dried to be used on the ship. It turns very well. It is kinda grainy though.

The box section is made from mahogany and the finial is made from oak. It is sanded to 320 grit. The box is 4” x 4” and the finial is 3”. I finished it with salad bowl finish. Really needs a shiner finish but I don’t have any at this time.
