very nice! I have looked at these clips from some of the suppliers, but can’t wrap my mind around how these are turned/held on the lathe. is there a mandrel or something that is required to hold them?

Gridlockd – they are turned on a mandrel. It’s basically a disc the size of the medallion, attached to a shaft to be held in a drill chuck or collet. Most use double stick tape to hold the material.
