This is Manzanita Burl Bowl #10 – and is the first of the 73 burls we received from California in April of 2013. This is a simple form, natural except for flattening the base and hollowing out the concave section for use as a bowl. The contrast of a high polish interior and natural exterior makes this a unique and one-of-a-kind turning.
The finish is Waterlox tung oil varnish – certified as a food safe finish. The ice cream sunday was designed by my girlfriend’s vermin, which should explain the gummy bears. Personally, I do not eat gummy anything, but they made for good color and texture. The vermin also served as taste testers, and since these photos were shot last Thursday night they have shown no signs of distress. Proving once again that Waterlox is safe as a food surface finish.
Many more manzanita projects are pending – and hopefully we’ll be selling some soon!
