Walnut Island Top built for client. 97” x 62” 1-3/4” thick over 100 pieces. 140 BF of Walnut!!! Cut out is for drop in gas cooktop. My current shop is 12’ x 12’ (breaking ground on 24’ x 36’ 1-1/2 story timber frame shop this summer) so it took every inch of space (thus shop is a disaster in pic). Built in 12” sections planed and glued. Flattened by hand plane and sander. Built on a Shopsmith! Edge is a new Frued 4 wing cutter they are worth the extra $$$! NO tear out and the shavings from the cut look like fine hand plane cuts. Finish is the real milk paint Organic Dark Tung Oil cut with citrus oil for food grade finish. This was my first time using the finish and I am a big fan. I still have to finish 3 small counter walnut plank counter-tops. Then I will buff the top with beeswax. Local cabinet maker built the cabinets (they look good but lack fit and finish quality). Hope to get some professional pictures to show local designers! What do you think?
