About 15 years ago I built a couple of simple spice racks for my wife and her sister. They were designed to go above the control portion of the stove. I had forgotten all about them and the one for the wife was lost when we moved more then 12 years ago. Out of the blue my wife’s sister asked if I could build her a new one since she was finally in her own home and had the right kind of stove. I decided to build her one and build a new one for the wife at the same time – but since my skills have improved since then I decided I would ’spice up’ the spice racks. I built them as sisters to each other using the primary wood of one as the accent to the other and vice versa. One is made form bubinga with the back and drawers done in canary and accented with wenge. The other is wenge, the back and drawers are shedua, and accented with bubinga. Both were finished in 5 coats of miniwax gloss wipe-on poly, and the inside of the drawers are finished with shellac. These slip behind the stove and rest on top of the control board but are still screwed to the wall.

These are fantastic :) Useful and quite striking. My favorite is the wenge, sehdua, and bublinga.

Gorgeous spice racks…how is the finish holding up to the stove top “working environment elements” ?

These are really nice. I have just figured out what I am giving to my son when he goes away to college: he considers himself a grillmiester.
