I’m in a Box building contest at SMC sponsored by Baileigh. I’m up against numerous projects to some degree were build by lasers or CNC’s While I have to applaud their abilities, it saddens me a bit that there weren’t more hand made entries. Anyway here is my project.

This box is titled “John Henry”
My friend Paul Miller who I’d like to thank for all his help & advice through out this build suggested this title. John Henry was in a competition in the 1870’s to drill blasting holes for the railroad against a steam hammer. In the end, he won, but he fell down dead. Being that I’m up against so many modern machines and I do feel like I could fall down dead, I thought it was perfect. In this build every step was a hands on process, no automation was used.

I’ll post more details later. My computer won’t load LJ for some reason. I’m on my phone right now.

Yea, I guess I do have a slight advantage. LOL JK. All kidding aside, it’s anybody’s game. There are some excellent entries.

Beautiful work Bill.
I love the maple interior and your corner inlays always amaze me.
The marquetry’s not too shabby either.
Thanks for the tip of the hat.

Good luck.

Couldn’t have done it with out you Paul. Thanks very much & Thanks so much for sharing your skill with me. I’m really excited to see what the future of Marquetry will bring. Can’t wait to get started on my own Chevalet. In stead of sitting around the fire, BSing, we can do marquetry & BS. The wife already thinks I’m nuts what’s a little more fun going to hurt. LOL

To everyone else here, check out Pauls projects, you’ll be amazed.

Thanks Tomd, I looked at your gallery, glad I’m not competing with you, you do stunning work. Like you, I too am a segmented woodturner. Same goes for the rest of you.
