This is the second chest that I made for my 9 year old grandson, I had to do it after he saw his older brother’s chest. It is also made of pine and has a secret compartment that you need two magnets to open.

Very nice. I have wanted to build a secret drawer on a project for a while now, how do the two magnets work?

I am sure your grandsons love you for them.

Perhaps he’s using this?

Bucky is right about the latch, mine are similar but they work the same.

I added two pictures one showing a wooden bone with two magnets embedded. and the other with the drawer out which shows the latches better. The bone was painted white and my grandson keeps it on a shelf in plain sight.

You make beautiful and interesting pirate chests! Like the design especially the secret compartment. Your grand kids will treasure them forever.

What a great idea for the hidden drawer. Where do you get latches like this?

The latches were from Home Depot but I saw some in my local hardware store.
