My wife was using her laptop on the couch with a pillow under it to keep it from burning her legs. It sank in to the pillow and started over heating. I said to my self, “now that is something I can fix.” 2hrs latter I made this.
2- 18”x18” 1/4” ply were quickly cut on the table saw. I used a Jig-saw to rough cut the arch to go around my gut. Then I used the table saw like a sander to round the corners. (that was cool, but not sure how safe) I used the flush trim bit in the router to make the make the large rad. match. Then I swapped bits and rounded the tops top edge.
I was gonna just glue them together but I like the idea of drawing on it too. So I cut a piece of 1/2” ply to length and riped it 10deg. Glue and small nails held it together for her evaluation.
She said “it’s a little rough” and “hirts my legs.” I add an old pillow case, cut to shape, and a little padding (more pillow cases) and I was done. I used it the next day to do some reading and writing while laying on the couch. I said to my self “I think we are gona need two…”
…note to self (need to post rant, and find the engineer who designed my saw with out a riving knife)

Hi jtd;
Very good idea, and probably scored some brownie points with the wife.
Until she went to bed and noticed the missing pillow cases!
