Sea Breeze is one of those old boxes I started some time ago but could not finish until I got some inspiration from a Buddy’s project posted yesterday .
It is a steam bent box made from birch and walnut with a vented lid .
The lid is simply saw kerfed and the two kerfed pieces are glued to the centre spar using the box as a cowl to get the matching curvature .
As you can see from the pics it is a potpourri box .
In the end this was a very satisfying project that just took some time to develop in my mind .

Wow, a wonderful box and with amazing craftsmanship Kiefer. It has a hint of several styles I love. The kerfed top is a great idea for a potpourri box too.

Really nice feel to this one Kiefer.
I can’t decide whether it reminds me more of a Grand Banks dory or a Salish canoe …. I’m leaning toward the canoe, but then I’m from B.C.
In either case it has a coastal Canadian feeling about it that really appeals to me.
Seems like a nice scent of cedar boughs should be coming from it.

Really nice details … I love it.

This is SWEET! I love it. The base reminds me of a wave, which is such a nice touch. You are a clever man and I love your work…......

Thanks Mike
This box took a long time to come together and started out a a different idea all together but turned into this over time.
I just let it happen and played with the details as I went , I find it the best way to approach a project .

Thanks Paul
You where the final inspiration on this one .
After seeing your blog yesterday about your desk doors I thought “yes ” that is it and finished this box .
This is also a tribute to my late uncle who was a ship carpenter and owner of seven ocean freighters , too bad he passed away when I was young he would have been a great mentor .

Thanks Cathy nice to hear from you again .
Glad you pointed out the base because I never thought of it as a wave but now I can see it .
I just looked for a light design detail and that was it .
