Clamp Rack Clamp Rack Clamp Rack Click the pictures to enlarge them

This is my version of the mobile clamp rack that Norm built on “The New Yankee Workshop”. I was prompted to make something when I ordered a set of the inexpensive bar clamps that Lee Valley had a month or so ago. Being too cheap to buy the “measured drawing and materials list”, I started from scratch and built it to my own dimensions. I used 3/4” birch plywood (none of the cheaper stuff at Home Depot was flat enough”, and all pieces were cut to a 10-degree angle. The clamps simply hang on 2” strips of plywood that are screwed in place. This allows me to modify the placement later if I desire. The center A-frame member allows me to have different lengths of clamp side by side.

I included one picture with my ugly mug to give an idea of scale—I’m 6’4” tall. Yes, it’s a big rack, but I’ve got a big shop area. The extra space also gives me room to add additional clamps later on.

Looks good Robert. My, what a big rack you have (sorry, couldn’t resist the easy joke).

this is really nice…looks like it will move easily to where you need it…and room to add more clamps…

I need a new rack for my clamps but I know my insurance won’t cover it, nice rack though.

Clean, simple, and all plywood. I like that. Mind if I copy your ideas?

Robert, nice job. The rack looks wonderfully functional. Having seen your mug, I have one question: Are you a relative of Jedd Clampet? Just kidding. LOL.

Great. Now I have rack envy.

That’s looking suspiciously like organization…

Can you say Nice Rack to a guy. Well it is a nice rack. I was going to build one for my garage play room shop with some leftover 2 X 4”s but yours look’s so good and the rack will be around for alllll time I think you have switched me over. I like Norms rack as well and I have it TVO’ed. You noted that yours it cut to 10 degrees and Norm’s is at 5 degrees. I’ll have to work out my best angle. I’m also your 5’ 11” tall. That may be the differents.

I chose the 10 degree angle on purpose. I did a mockup, and 10 degrees kept the clamps in place better when rolling the rack around the shop—less fall-off when hitting cords, etc. This way, they would simply ride without needing to be clamped on or requiring use of individual hangers. Yes, this makes for a larger footprint, but room isn’t as much of a consideration for me.
