Project Information

Just completed making a bath platform made using Ipe. The platform measures 24" wide and 54" long. I made this to inset into a shower stall to elevate the floor to accommodate a shower wheel chair. I needed a material that would be rot resistant and Ipe fit the bill perfectly. The top slats are secured to 2 running rails underneath with # 8 stainless steel screws, and finished off with 3/4" rubber feet underneath. Not to many problems building other than burning up a few drill bits on all of the pilot holes but all in all I'm pretty happy with the final product. Thanks for checking it out. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I'm used to seeing Ipe in a much darker color. Is this Sapwood by any chance ?

Looks to be sap wood. The supply was decking material that I had ripped down to size and routed down the ripped edges to match the factory edge.

Nice looking bath platform!

I've seen other projects similar to this, where they were teak, and used in place of a shower mat. I like the concept of a teak shower mat, but am curious how absorbant they are, and if they're really worth it in the real world.

Any feedback as to how your project works in practice is greatly appreciated!
