This is a 9 inch Bowl turned out of an old block of Purple Heart. Its the first very hard wood I have turned. It was a lot harder than I anticipated and was like carving a bowling ball. I lost a clean inch from an old gouge whilst learning to work it. The results however are worth the effort! The gouge made a full recovery.

The external colours were brought out with a light touch from a small blow torch. The internal colour is from natural light for 1 day post turning and pre polishing.

The bowl is finished with one coat of friction polish.

Great job! I’ve turned very small pieces of purpleheart, and you’re right, it’s very hard.
