Remote control

I recently added an air filtration system to my shop. It is a store brand for the midwest Menard’s home center, but I believe it is a rebranded Grizzley G0738. It is working well for me, except the battery cover kept falling off the remote. The remote uses rather cheap-looking plastic. I decided to machine a wood case.

The remote came apart easily. It uses PC board mounted switches, pretty common in electronics, with membrane switch covers. I machine some pushbutton plungers instead. The battery box was built into the old case. Fortunately I had a battery box on hand, which was quite easily connected to the circuit board. Four screws secure the case, so everything stays together now.

That’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on here. I want one for my TV.

wow! a wooden remote control!

that’s ultra cool!

Don’t leave it near the scraps bin or you’ll get a hard time looking for it, :)

That’s a really cool way to fix a loose plastic cover. I would have resorted to duct tape. Nice build, it’ll probably start a fad.

Ha! I did use duct tape at first, but I couldn’t leave it that way. I’ve been wanting to a remote like this for a long time, but having this one with the bad case was incentive to finally get it done.

A TV remote would be awesome.

That is one for the books. EVERY woodworker needs a wooden remote for the shop. Well done!
