Even though I am a cabinetmaker by trade, I have been a drummer for the past 30 years, and my passion was always to create my very own drums. These are stave or segment construction drums, the maple had reinforcing rings inside while the purpleheart does not. The finish is clear pre-cat lacquer, and the hardware was recycled from older drums. The maple was carved and turned by hand, with a belt sander til it was true, and the purpleheart was turned on a lathe. Both insides were finished with a router and jig built for this purpose. Yes, they sound good!

Nice job. The purple heart would make a beautiful drum set.

As a fellow drummer and sawdust maker, I am both jealous, and impressed! Nice work!

This is really nice work and I bet that it was a fun project.

Very nice! I’ve been a guitar player for over forty years and am in the process of building a guitar. One day I’ll finish it!

Ditto on exterminates post…
a pic without the heads would be very interesting if you have one.

Maybe someday when I’m done collecting tools I will make something I can actually use :0
