I have added another sign to the bottom of the shop sign I hung last week. These are done with the router then painted in. The top one is made of soft maple and the bottom one is made from sassafras with a coat of Thompson’s Water Seal on each one.The upright sign is a poplar log sliced diagonally

Hi Mike, yes this is done freehand. I just transfer the lettering to my board with carbon paper then just follow the lines with my router. I use a v-groove bit on most letters and a straight bit for some of the designs.
