Antique Door Bed

This was one of my wife’s wedding presents. Our first large purchase as a couple was a very nice mattress set. We felt this investment would lead to more sleeping together. ;) Five years on and I must say, sleeping anywhere but home is a trial.

I picked up these two antique doors for $30 for the pair. They were rough and stripping them down was some work. The posts are just 4”x4s” with caps made from 2”x6s” Bed hardware can be had for a pretty good price at some of the hardware supply houses. I really like the keyhole detail of the old hardware I’ve always thought that someday I’ll get glass door knobs to make it a bit more fancy.

I made the pictures a bit old fashioned to match the concept. I hope you enjoy them an are inspired when you see an old door. I’d like to make a glass top table from an old door someday too. So many old doors have such character.

Great save on the old doors! Nothing like turning the old into new! Classy bed, as well!
