I made this bed for my nephew (in photo). He was sleeping in a toddler bed until about six months ago when my sister commissioned a new bed for him. I finished the bed in February, but it only arrived at her house this week (my other sister drove there to visit her, about 1000 miles from here). He slept in it last night and seems to like it (he feels like a “very big boy” sleeping in it, “like 15 years old or so”).
Not too much to say about the construction. Bed bolts and cross dowels, hand-cut mortise and tenons. On the headboard the top tenons are glued but the bottom ones are pinned with dowels. The wood is birch, finished with boiled linseed oil and wax (he’s pretty rough on furniture, so I opted for less protection but easier to touch up).

Like it. Simple design but looks really well made. Very lucky nephew, sure looks proud to have it.

A great bed in all senses. Easy to move, solidly built, easy to love as he does. I’ll bet those lower posts get lots of action in play.

Wow.. Very nice looks. I really like the simple bed. Buying a bed is often a big investment, so think long and hard about what you want before you make a decision. The furniture in your home can fulfill many functions, providing comfortable places to work and relax while creating a visual feel for your interior space. Ideally, the furniture you select should reflect both your needs and your sense of style.
