I’m new around here but still wanted to post something recent. This day bed was installed last month as my first “commissioned” piece. Wasn’t that difficult but the customer sure likes it. It went into a new room addition and she designed the space with a day bed in mind. Then she couldn’t find anyone to make it. Her general contractor wouldn’t touch it, and she couldn’t find a cabinet maker to do it either. They specified straight grain doug fir to match the window casing. (customer stained and finished this one).

Welcome to LJ. That is a great looking day bed. I like to look of straight grained doug fir.

A good benchmark for determining the success of a project is this: Does it look like it belongs in the location or was part of the original design?
In your case the answer is absolutely – YES!
Great job!

Thanks for all your great comments. Makes me want to do some more woodworking! This project was great because the homeowner showed me the space and let me design the piece. She wasn’t even sure what questions to ask. Most importantly, her whole family loved the results. I wish she had let me finish it too.

Nice daybed. I hope it wasn’t too hard to tear that big block of black tape off your poor kid’s face though.
