These boxes were for a Boy Scout training program called Woodbadge. I wanted to give a special gift to the leaders of our group. The Woodbadge logo is a pentagonal shape so I designed these boxes to reflect that shape.
I have a set of box joint jigs from Oak Park Industries and used by the Router Workshop guys. After some simple math and dusting off some old geometry books, I designed a push block and a cutting jig to make the joints.
I made some from mahogany and some out of black walnut and glued a felt bottom into them. They were well received and I have continued to make them for my Boy Scout leader friends that attain the Woodbadge award.
I used water based poly on them. I made them in the early spring and it’s still cold in Mississippi so I can do my finishing in the house with out bothering the family and cats.

Unique and beautiful boxes. They look difficult to make. Dust off the off the old geometry books, ya right.

I used to be a bobwhite, a good old bobwhite too, but now I’m finished bobwhiting I don’t know what to do…...I’m growing old and feeble and I can bobwhite no more…..
Nice boxes! The angles look difficult to me. Well done.

Nice joints – must have been fun working out the jigs needed.
