Being currently unemployed and living off my wife’s hard work (and loving it, so don’t tell her) every now and then I gotta actually finish that honeydew list. I’m not good at lists.
I am good at the nice gesture. This was waiting for her on the mantle when she got home.
Any carvers out there want to point me to a coupla good carving books? I have two serving trays and I want something similar carved into it.
Whiskey.

I’m no carver so I can’t help you out. It don’t look to me like you need much, LOL.

I looked in Carving Magazine and found one club in Virginia. You can learn carving twice as fast with the help of a club. Step by step instruction and tips are in Carving Magazine.

I enjoy carving very much, and learned a lot from a book by Richard Butz, called How to Carve Wood: A Book of Projects and Techniques. It points out the basic tools, and steps for lots of styles of carvings. You don’t have to decide whether you’re interested in chip carving, relief, or 3-D. The text is very readable, and pictures are very inspiring. Some good patterns too.
