Mitchell Display Case

I built this display case for my dad’s first fishing reel. He had it sitting on a shelf in the garage and I thought it deserved a better resting place due to it’s high sentimental value.

This was my first project that I set glass panels.

Each post is mortised into the top and bottom and is routed to fit the glass panels. This was also my first project with properly sharpened chisels and therefore my first project that could be handled easily without glue, but I glued it up anyway. The top is removeable.

Oak
Finish is Minwax Wipe On Poly.

My dad was very happy to receive this gift.

It makes a very nice display case for a valued object. Congratulations.

That’s a nice tribute to your Dad and a great old reel.

I still use old Mitchell 300 reels. My biggest salmon, 55 lbs, was caught on a Mitchell. Great reels.

That sure deserves a great display storage you made. Great job on it. One lucky Dad!
