March, 2013 – Another band saw box. These are fun to make. This one is unusual in two ways. First, the back is oak. This is what can happen when you forget to cut off the back before cutting out the drawers!

The second thing that is different: I cut a curve in the face that is not aligned with the X nor Y axis. This gives the front a rather subtle, random look. Was my first time trying that.

The wood is very pretty so I didn’t clutter the face with drawer knobs. The finish is water-based poly satin, brushed on.

If you didn’t tell me about the back I would of thought you planed it that way. This one has some really nice grain in it. Excellent work! That Ajax is almost famous! LOL!

Great looking box Art. I have done the same thing a couple times…the problem I ran into is I didn’t find any wood here the same color….don’t remember what I used, but I was able to trade that box and another the other day for $600 worth of Koa….I did add a couple hundred cash with the box. But I do like to barter items I have made.

Glad to see I am not the only one messing up on back cut off… but in my case, I cut it off & then carefully picked up the back along with the entire piece & proceeded to cut out the drawers. Seeing how you worked around the “opportunity”, I’ll try something like that – won’t look as nice as yours though.

That is just an eye-catcher piece! You really get a unique sense of beauty in making band saw boxes.

I like all of your latest Bandsaw boxes. They are addictive aren’t they?
