This has to be the widest daybed I’ve ever built. It is 12 1/2 feet wide and 8 feet tall. It goes from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. It was finished up in February 2013, but build over several months preceding that.

The Bed
I stared with a daybed with an arch front/top section. Inside has small bookcase built in, to utilize some of the wasted space behind the bookcases. Under the bed was the pull out trundle. The hardest part was coming up with a way that it could be disassembled and then assembed in the customer’s room with only 8’ ceilings.

The Bookcases
The bookcases are all the same. They are built in two parts so that they could be assembled without having to stand them up in the room (8’ ceiling restrictions).

I spent a lot of time on the trim making sure they align up nicely and ways to interfering with other parts.

The Doors
The doors were something that I spent a lot of time on. The have a panel insert from Outwater Plastics and then rope molding added.

The Finish
The finish is a white lacquer with an antiquing glaze. I put about 5 coat of undercoater and white lacquer to achieve a very slick finish as not to put too much of the glaze on the main parts of the bed. We wanted to highlights to really stand out.

Suppliers
Door inserts Outwater
Rope Molding and crown Cedar Creek

I forgot to put on there. As soon as the customer sends me an installed picture, I’ll post it. So add this to your watch list.

Thanks for the comments.

That’s the daybed of daybeds. Very nicely done and a wonderful presentation.

Usually don’t check out “the furniture” projects on here but this one REALLY caught my eye. You created a real heirloom here Chris. Something you, the Princess and her future Princesses can be real proud of. EXCELLENT craftsmanship!!!
