my first box

Here’s the first box I ever made…and it’s almost square! It’s made from a piece of scrap a local woodworker had laying in his shop for 25+ years (his estimation). It was a piece of rough sawn yellow pine. I liked the texture so much that I decided to go with it. I even cut small edge band strips to mask a few edges I had from making the cuts.
All in all, it does it’s job, which is to keep my wife from storing a super sharp knife in a drawer full of knives. I think the rustic look matches the knife well. I finished it with several coats of BLO.
Thanks for looking.

Thank you Big All, I appreciate the encouragement, especially coming from you. Your work is really terrific. It definitely sets the bar high!
I’m working on my next box now and am close to being finished. It’s much more complicated than this one. I’ll post when finished.
thank you again

Dan, I really like that. It’s simple, yet there’s great contrast from the outside to the inside and that makes it very interesting in my opinion. Good work.

Simple design but really clean work. Like the rustic look. A great storage for your beautiful knife. Well done!

SFLTim and Fishinbo, thank you both for your encouragement. It couldn’t have come at a better time, as I just spent the last couple of hours taking two steps backward on my current box. So much can go wrong so fast in woodworking!
Thank you again for the kind words.
