My wife put in a request for a pair of boxes – more in the form of an ‘order’ really. These were to do double duty for storage, as well to be used either as end tables or as a support for a slab of something or other to serve as a coffee table. She also wanted to be able to stand on the boxes for getting up high. These are the result. Each box is a simple cube of 1/2” A-B ply, 18’ x 19” x 20”.
Brass handles and sturdy hinges are used along with simple brass chains to hold the lids when open. Oak flanges keep the lid aligned. In my opinion these cubes also need latches, but the wife insists this is exactly what she wants – sans latches. Pictures #3 and #4 show reinforcement for the top to handle the weight of someone standing on the boxes. Now, all she needs to do is paint the things – not my department she says.
