Probably one of my all time favorite projects I have completed in the last 6 months. Simple in many aspects but used 5/4 stock for the top and it just made a robust piece. The material was grown and harvested from Indiana and hand selected to make the perfect table. The table was aprx 8ft in length and weighed about 250 lbs. Having the pieces all line up and come out smooth and flat was a bit of a challenge. Although Cherry is hard the grain provide the perfect hardness for the router bits to place a crisp edge in the wood and also a very aromatic wood. I am looking forward to doing another cherry project very soon. The part of the project that was very sad was having to put ebony stain on it. I know what you are saying but it was not for me.

My soul is crying over the stain, but I understand. It would be beautiful as the cherry darkens.

Awesome work.

Nice clean table. It turned out nicely. Congratulations.

I actually had to pump myself up for the staining because it was such a polar opposite of what I would have done for a table for myself or family. This is the ebony stain going on:

Both wonderful and sad at the same time. Looks like you had picked out some really nice Cherry to start with : )

Classic, simple, beautiful table. How would you have finished it had you kept it for yourself?

Have your say...
