My first box

It’s not much but there it is. I found myself sitting around one evening and decided to try my hand at a box. The sides are made from a single piece of pine that was in my scrap bin and the top is made from a broken cutting board that I once tried to flatten with my planer. My hand was almost broken but I saved the pieces and when it came time to make a top for the box I realized I didn’t have any pieces of wood big enough that I wanted to give up for this project. So I cut what was left of the board up and made this top. It is maple and purple heart. I lined the inside with felt and put walnut splines in just so I could make a spline jig. All in all I wasn’t super happy with my results but I gave me a chance to practice some techniques and also to make a new jig.

It’s really beautiful for a 1st. Great wood combo and the splines and the felt added a nice touch. Well done!
