I was in need of a marking gauge and came across this website by Bob Rozaieski that had a GREAT video on how to make one of these handy little tools.

I followed his directions as well as I could (my wood stock was a little different sized and I am LEFT handed) and it turned out great! After the glue dried on the fence (I had to glue up two pieces to make a thickness usable) it took about 2 hours to make.

No brass inlay or fancy knobs, but I made it from scrap, it cost me nothing, and it WORKS.

Thanks for the project idea, Bob!!

For details you can see my blog, here.

Great marking gauge.
You can never have enough, I think I have seven :)

I remember when I made my first marking gauge. I didn’t want to buy something that I might not use. I found an instructable and deciphered the directions. I have used it on occasion, but I think I like it more than one I might have just bought somewhere. Nothing like making it yourself!
