A little nudge for all the other young dad’s and grandpa’s on LJ’s;-) I couldn’t stomach the quality of the beds we found in furniture stores…so I made em. Made the bunkbed a few years back, and the loft bed about 6 months ago.
Saw no need to reinvent the wheel, so I got the plans on Woodsmiths Plansnow site. I made some minor changes, but having plans sped these projects up quite a bit.
Both are made from plainsawn red oak due to price and availability here in Iowa. Both could easily be made out of so. yellow pine or something more reasonable in your area. They are very solid pieces and will definitely hold up for another generation. Feel free to shoot me any questions if your considering making one. Peace out, Red
