I have made several of these Message Centers. I use red oak, and old rail road spikes that I found along the rail road tracks are great for hanging coats and hats on. I also have 2 letter holders on each side. The dry erase boards seem to come in handy and gets lots of use. I use some old english rub on lettering to put the name of the family at the top. I always route in the keyhole slots in the back to hang them with, but for whatever reason, this fellar used a couple screws thru the front and then mixed sawdust and glue to try and cover up the screws. These turned out pretty good. Thanks for lookin

Good job. I like the spikes.

What’s your trick in securing the spikes? Do you drill/tap a hole to screw it through the back (similar to a drawer pull)? Or epoxy it into a mortise? I plan on making a credenza and have considered using RR spike for the door pulls. Thanks, and great job!

Thanks Barefoot, I mortise the holes and then use epoxy. It holds up really well and have never had the first problem with any of them, in all the years I have been making them
