Fireplace cover up

This was a fun fireplace cover up. My customer wanted something simple but different. So this is what we came up with. Most of it is wood stacked together to create a beaded or softened look. The only router bit used was a 1/4” round over bit and each piece stacked and fastened together to look like a heavy beaded look. The mantle itself was also staked until we got to the desired thickness. It was a simple project but ended up looking unique. The home owner is an artist and used the area above the fireplace to display her artwork.
The only molding used was 3” crown on the top.

100% improvement. The new look will surely draw attention to whatever art she decides to feature. Simple elegance.

What a difference. I’m also a mason though and I love the brick look. You definitely added class to that room!

This does look nice, Mark. Very cleverly done. I’m impressed with your new Sketchup skills!

Very nice Mark. Ya certainly kicked up that room. Your stepped idea is very cool. I’m right in the middle of doing the same.
