Normally when asked to do a project I look to my lumberjock community for a concept or just some inspiration. This time I blatantly stole the concept from LewH. I fell in love with his piece, it is a wonderful concept perfectly executed. So to personalize it, because my scroll saw work is not as good as his. I edited a picture I took last year in Kenya with photoshop to make a pattern I could work with. Then I engraved/carved it using my air powered rotary engraver. The darker grain of the wood provided the ground effect, and somehow the tree grew out of it. Thanks Lew, I have another project/present made.

Not only do you have the ground but also a heat shimmering sky and what looks to be a dry riverbed running through. With your great tree carving you have given this small piece of wood its only true purpose. Well done.

Thanks, I was going to add a sun and cloud but you are right the wood said it all.

Very nice and your carving is spot-on!
