Multi-colored box for my Dad. Made from figured readheart, hard maple, cocobolo & wenge, and lined with spanish cedar. More of a project just to learn about different woods, but still learned a lot. Dovetail splines helped reinforce the corners, and the wooden hinges worked out well.

Nicely done. The hinges are cool, but I think the straps give it something a bit different and make it special.

That’s a great box. I think the leather keeper is a great touch, and the multiple wood species, and the radial screw array on the hinge mounting. Makes it look very retro/steampunk.

Looove the hinges. Nice idea. The box was a great gift, I’m sure your father love it as well. The wood selection makes it all stand proud.

I’m glad that everyone likes the project. It’s always nice to have something you’ve made praised. As for the hinges, if anyone decides to try their hand at them, just make sure you make extras. I can’t count the number of times that I tried to drill the hole through the “fingers” for the hinge rod and ended up breaking or cracking one beyond repair. So, just to be on the safe side, go ahead and make a few extras when you’re cutting them and you’ll thank me later. Good luck everyone!
