Friends of ours wanted a kids size coat rack for their house. They wanted cherry and they wanted something to match their mission style furniture. I came up with this design. It was cut from a 4”x 4” block of cherry that was 40 inches long. I cut off 1” strips from 2 sides and used that to make the bottom. The sides have a hexagonal shape that I cut using a 45 degree angle with using my router so I could keep a square bottom. They are half-lapped and the coat rack sits in the middle. The biggest mistake I made with these is that the taller pegs are on the sides without bottom support. If I were to make it again I would make sure those pegs would be in line with the feet of the base.
