Project Information
It's my Mothers birthday this week and her cutting board has seen better days. So while she was out of town this weekend I made her a replacement.
The board is solid Pecan Hickory. I bought 8/4 and planed it down to about 1 3/4 to get it smooth on all sides. i had to run them all through my joiner and let me tell you it was a work out. I go to the gym pretty regularly and I was still sweating and panting when I was done.
It is made out of 2 boards that I cut in half (4 total pieces), planed and joined. I finished it with some cutting board conditioner and wax.
The has a very large island in her kitchen so the cutting board is approximately 22 inches wide and 42 inches long. and it weighs a TON!!!! My wife was nice enough to help me carry it into the house. I put some quarter inch tall footings on it that are set back so it would like like it was floating.
hope she likes it and I can't wait to make some countertops just like this when I redo my kitchen.
