This pencil box is my first attempt at box joints. I’m almost ashamed to post it after looking at the boxes many of you have posted but I’m pretty happy with it. This is a test/prototype for other boxes I plan to make so I used what was on hand – 1/4” pine for the box itself and aspen for the top. Joints were created with a jig I constructed that is similar to the ones offered by Oak Park and used on the Router Workshop tv show. (http://ca.oak-park.com/catalogue.html?list=boxj--&product=F014). Finish is a couple coats of natural Watco Danish Oil.

I like this, I recently made my first finger joint box. It has hinges which I didn’t install correctly and the lid stays open a little bit. It is a tea box for my wife, I should post it. I want to try the sliding lid next time, I really like it, thanks for posting.

Jim, you are being to hard on your self. I think that is a great looking box. Give yourself some credit and keep up the great work.

I dont post very many comments, certainly dont post them on projects that dont appeal to me but there’s nothing wrong with this box. Well done and looks nice.

Simple can be very easy to look at.
