This is my most recent project, just finished this past week, I’ve been working on it since January, mostly on weekends and the odd evening after work. This was made as a birthday gift for my older brother. Everything is made out of spruce 2×3’s for home depot. For this project all tools were hand tools with the exception of an electric hand drill and sander.

The desk come apart into 5 pieces without the use of tools for easy transportation. The top, right and left sides, and the upper and lower back support.

The top is made out of 20, 2×3 laminated together and planed flat. The sides are put together with mortise and tenon. The upper back support is notched and locks the sides in place, where as the bottom brace has interlocking backers on either ends, that slide into corresponding brackets on the sides. Each side has two dowels that stick out to line up with corresponding holes on the underside of the top. This keep everything ridged and in place.

The finish is many, many coats of Varathane.

Now there is a sturdy looking desk the kids could never destroy.
